Father Accused of Attempted Sexual Assault on Daughter

Inspector Glory Eyo, a police Prosecution Witness, testified at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos about the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl by her father, Abdullah Abiodun. She explained that the incident occurred in the Badagry area of the state. Abiodun’s son, Usman, witnessed the act and alerted others.

In her testimony, Inspector Eyo said, “Abiodun was at home with his daughter, his younger brother, and a visitor. After the visitor left, Abiodun tried to assault his daughter. Usman, the victim’s younger brother, discovered this and raised the alarm. The defendant attempted to chase Usman away, but the victim screamed and ran to a neighbor for help. The neighbor reported the incident to the local authorities and the police.”

The case is scheduled to continue on December 16, 2023. The defendant was charged with unlawful defilement of a child under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Abiodun pleaded not guilty to the charge when arraigned on June 3, 2021.
