The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed that renowned Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 De Ultimate, was involved in a recent aviation safety breach at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The incident, which occurred during boarding for a ValueJet flight to Lagos, led to the suspension of two ValueJet pilots by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for violating standard pre-departure procedures.
In a video posted by the NCAA, the aircraft—a CRJ-900ER with registration 5N-BXS—was seen taxiing from its bay despite ground staff still being in close proximity, prompting immediate concerns about safety protocol violations. Some staff were seen fleeing as the aircraft began moving.
In a statement issued Tuesday night, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, confirmed the suspension of the two pilots, noting that the authority had been notified of the violation by the airline itself.
ValueJet also issued a statement admitting fault and announcing the withdrawal of the two crew members from service.
However, FAAN has now provided further clarity, confirming that the disruption was linked to the actions of K1 De Ultimate during boarding. According to FAAN, the artist attempted to board the flight with a liquid substance, despite repeated warnings from aviation security (AVSEC) personnel and the flight captain.
“Liquids exceeding 100ml are prohibited through security screening in accordance with Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and international standards under ICAO Annex 17,” FAAN explained.
The musician, who reportedly refused to comply with the regulation, became aggressive when asked to step aside for further clarification. FAAN alleged that he poured the contents of a flask—later identified as alcohol—on an airline security officer.
“The Flight Captain intervened but also faced resistance. Once boarding was completed, the passenger moved to the aircraft’s front section and refused to leave. He was eventually escorted away by AVSEC’s crime unit for further investigation,” the statement read.
FAAN emphasized that the matter is under ongoing investigation and warned that all parties found culpable would be held accountable.
“The Authority will not tolerate any actions that compromise operational integrity or undermine aviation safety standards, regardless of the individuals involved,” it added.
