A man identified as Kazeem, aged 43 reportedly jumped into a domestic well, on Sallah celebration day, thereby turning the Eid day to a mourning period for residents of Alapo Compound in the Edun area of Ilorin, Kwara State.
The middle-aged man before his death, had allegedly been exhibiting strange behaviours, said to have been influenced banned drug, Colorado otherwise known as Colos
It was said that, the deceased, started acting strangely shortly after returning from the Eid prayer ground on Friday.
Eyewitnesses said his behaviors were erratic and was influenced by the psychoactive substance.’.
Efforts to calm him down proved abortive, and in a moment that stunned onlookers, Kazeem was said to have leapt into a nearby well within the compound.
Attempts by neighbours to rescue him failed, prompting an emergency call to the Kwara State Fire Service.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the Service’s spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, said firefighters responded swiftly to the distress alert received around 10:29 a.m.
Though , the firefighters arrived promptly, but by the time he was pulled out of the well, he had gave up, a source said.
In a statement, Adekunle said:
“The victim reportedly jumped into the well under the influence of a hard substance known as Colo (Colorado) shortly after returning from Eid prayers,” he said.
He further said that the victim’s remains were handed over to officers from the ‘C’ Division of the Nigeria Police in Ilorin. He noted that the process of formal identification and handover to the family was ongoing.
