Dele Momodu Dumps PDP, Joins African Democratic Congress

Veteran journalist and publisher, Chief Dele Momodu, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a new chapter in his political journey.

Momodu, who was a presidential aspirant under the PDP in the 2023 general elections, announced his defection on Thursday, citing the need for a fresh political direction aligned with his ideals for national transformation.

In a statement released via his official social media handles, Momodu expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided him over the years but noted that the party had strayed from its founding principles.

“I have taken time to reflect deeply on the current state of our nation and the direction I believe we must go. After wide consultations, I have decided to pitch my tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party I believe offers a better ideological foundation and platform to pursue the change Nigeria desperately needs,” he stated.

The ADC, a smaller but growing opposition party, welcomed Momodu’s defection, describing him as “a principled democrat, media icon, and respected voice in Nigeria’s political discourse.”

Momodu’s move comes amid growing discontent within the PDP ranks and speculations about realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
