Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has honoured the memory of his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, with the unveiling of a female hostel named after her at Clifford University in Abia State.
The building, called the Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel, was officially commissioned on Sunday during the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony, where Davido also delivered the commencement speech to the graduating class.
In a post shared on his X handle @davido, the award-winning artist encouraged graduates to pursue purpose-driven lives, emphasizing that true greatness lies in impact, not fame.
“When I looked into their faces, I saw the same fire that built me — that hunger to turn pain into power. I told them that talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning,” Davido wrote.
Speaking about the dedication, the singer described the project as a heartfelt tribute to his mother, who was a teacher and philanthropist.
“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, believed in the power of education and compassion. This building continues her mission — turning love into legacy,” he added.
Davido was joined at the event by his close friend and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, who pledged to sponsor the school fees of 50 students.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chimezie Omeonu, commended Davido for his commitment to education and for using his platform to inspire young Africans to strive for excellence.
The ceremony concluded with the official ribbon-cutting of the Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel, attended by university officials, students, and invited guests.
