A Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri has sentenced a 37-year-old woman, Fatima Sanda, to two years’ imprisonment for procuring a 16-year-old girl for sexual exploitation.

The court also ordered Sanda to pay ₦500,000 in compensation to the victim following her conviction, which was secured by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

According to reports, the judgment was delivered on Monday, October 12, 2026, by Justice Aisha M. Ndume at Court 10 of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri.

NAPTIP disclosed that Sanda was convicted of procuring the teenage girl and subjecting her to sexual exploitation by other persons.

The offence contravenes Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, as amended.

The agency announced the conviction in a statement published on its official Facebook page, confirming that the court imposed a two-year prison sentence and ordered the payment of ₦500,000 to the victim.

The case highlights the legal consequences of trafficking-related offences involving the sexual exploitation of minors and underscores ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to protect vulnerable persons from abuse.

According to NAPTIP, Suleiman pleaded guilty to the offence after the case was referred to its Niger State Command by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
