A Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) has reportedly been crushed to death by a truck while attempting to intercept the vehicle along Hospital Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The fatal incident occurred opposite Mega Primary School, throwing residents and other road users into distress.
According to eyewitness accounts, the officer attempted to flag down the truck, which was reportedly travelling in the fast lane, but was unable to stop it before the vehicle struck him.
The officer was subsequently trapped beneath the truck, while residents at the scene shouted in distress.
A video of the incident, shared by Akure-based radio station Crest FM on Friday, October 9, showed residents gathering at the scene as some of the deceased officer’s colleagues appeared visibly distressed.
The identity of the officer had yet to be officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
Similarly, details surrounding the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter, including the identity of the truck driver and whether the authorities had commenced a formal investigation, remained unclear.
