Former Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina Faces Deportation from South Africa Over Immigration Status

Former Miss Universe Nigeria and Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, Chidimma Adetshina, is facing possible deportation from South Africa after authorities accused her of residing in the country without valid immigration status.

According to reports, South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs has instituted legal proceedings against the beauty queen, alleging that she and her young son are unlawfully staying in the country.

Court documents reportedly filed before the Cape Town Regional Court claim that Adetshina was declared a “prohibited person” in December 2024 under the country’s Immigration Act. Authorities also allege that she later re-entered South Africa through the Lebombo border post from Mozambique while claiming South African citizenship.

The Department of Home Affairs further stated that her application to remain in South Africa, as well as that of her minor son, was rejected, prompting the current deportation process.

The development marks another chapter in the immigration controversy that first brought Adetshina into the spotlight in 2024. She withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant after questions were raised over her citizenship and eligibility.

Following her withdrawal, she accepted an invitation to compete in Nigeria, where she emerged as Miss Universe Nigeria 2024. She later represented Nigeria at the Miss Universe competition, finishing as first runner-up and earning the continental title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.

Despite the latest legal action, Adetshina has not been deported. The matter remains before the court, and a final decision on her immigration status is yet to be reached.
