The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 380 rounds of military-grade ammunition and uncovered more than 1.2 tonnes of cannabis during a series of coordinated operations in Kaduna State.
According to the agency, operatives on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway at Jere arrested a 30-year-old suspect, identified as Sunusi Musa, who was allegedly transporting 380 rounds of 7.62mm military-grade ammunition destined for Katsina State. The recovered ammunition and the suspect have since been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
In a separate operation within Kaduna, NDLEA officers raided a residence in the Gonin Gora area, where they allegedly discovered 100 jumbo bags of cannabis, popularly known as skunk, weighing about 1,246 kilograms. Three suspects, including a couple identified as Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside Salomi Ezekiel, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
The agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent criminal elements from using illicit proceeds and logistics channels to fuel insecurity across the country.
The Kaduna interceptions were among several nationwide operations carried out by the anti-narcotics agency. NDLEA also reported the discovery of illicit drugs concealed inside water purifier machines imported from the Netherlands, as well as additional drug seizures in Niger and Enugu states.
Chairman of the agency, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations and urged personnel across the country to sustain the momentum in the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes.
The latest seizure highlights growing concerns among security stakeholders over the movement of military-grade ammunition and illicit drugs across strategic transport corridors in northern Nigeria, amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb organized crime and violent activities.
