Nollywood Actress Aunty Ajara Dies After Prolonged Illness

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into deep mourning following the death of short sized Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara, after a prolonged illness.
Her death was confirmed on Thursday by Nollywood director Tobi Oladele Teemony, also known as Tee Mony, in a statement shared on Instagram.

According to him, the actress passed away overnight after what he described as a “long and courageous battle with illness.”

“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara.

She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness,” the statement read.
Teemony disclosed that the late actress received overwhelming support during her illness, including prayers and financial assistance from colleagues, fans, and kind-hearted individuals across the world. He expressed gratitude to all who stood by her during the difficult period.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood by her with prayers, contributions, encouragement, and compassion,” he said, while urging members of the public to discontinue donations earlier solicited for her medical treatment, noting that further financial contributions were no longer required.

The announcement was accompanied by a video message from her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, who confirmed that medical personnel officially pronounced her dead.

“The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on. We appreciate everyone who supported us during this period,” he said, appealing once again to the public to stop sending money into the account previously shared for her treatment.

The actress’ death comes barely a week after Teemony and several Nollywood figures, including Ronke Oshodi Oke, appealed for urgent financial assistance, stating that her condition had worsened despite ongoing treatment and extensive support from well-wishers.

Earlier reports indicated that Aunty Ajara, who was also said to be pregnant, was battling a liver-related illness and had been placed on oxygen as her health deteriorated.

Several Nollywood stars such as Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo, and Ronke Oshodi Oke had rallied public support and called for donations amid growing concern over her condition.

Her death marks another painful loss to the Nigerian movie industry, particularly the Yoruba film sector, where she was known for her relatable roles and dedication to her craft. Burial arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
