The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has strongly denied allegations that he smokes marijuana, describing the claims as malicious and invoking curses on those behind them.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the monarch, speaking at a public event, dismissed the rumours as falsehoods peddled by “unfortunate people,” warning that divine punishment awaited the perpetrators.
“They are lying against me. They are unfortunate people. Unless I am smoking marijuana, if I’m a smoker, God should remove me from this throne. You who are accusing me of being a smoker, God will punish you,” he declared.
The denial comes just days after the Court of Appeal affirmed Oba Akanbi’s position as the Paramount Ruler of Iwoland—a ruling he described as a divine validation of his reign.
Celebrating the judgment, the monarch said his kingship was ordained by God and could not be undermined by human efforts. He further stressed his commitment to preserving Iwo’s cultural heritage while embracing modernity, adding that his reign had attracted federal presence to the town and reshaped its image.
Oba Akanbi also criticised his challengers in court, describing their efforts as wasteful and futile, insisting that the legal battles only reinforced his legitimacy on the throne.
