A 14 year-old girl, who is seven months pregnant, has appealed to authorities to show mercy to her father, who has been arrested for allegedly impregnating her in Oluyole Local Council of Oyo State.
The suspect, identified as Kayode Oluwaseunfunmi, was apprehended by police in Ibadan following a report made by a journalist. According to a source in the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, concerned individuals first rescued the girl and brought the case to the attention of the journalist, who then alerted the police.
Police authorities confirmed that Oluwaseunfunmi has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID) for further investigation. The victim has since been placed in an orphanage pending ongoing welfare and rehabilitation efforts.
Sources close to the case revealed that the abuse began in December 2024. The girl, whose identity is being withheld for legal and ethical reasons, disclosed that she has lived under her father’s care along with two siblings since their mother’s death 10 years ago.
Due to the pregnancy, the teenager was unable to sit for her Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) examinations. In a heartfelt plea, she urged the authorities not to imprison her father.
“I never wanted this to happen,” she said. “My father has always been our protector since our mother died. Despite what he did, I still love him. I don’t want our family to be torn apart again. We’ve already lost so much.”
She continued:
“My father made a terrible mistake, but I believe there is a way to heal without destroying our family. I want support, not punishment. I hope the authorities will understand.”
In response, the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion stated that efforts are underway to provide full rehabilitation for the girl and ensure that justice is served in line with child protection laws.
The case remains under investigation as the SCID prepares to forward the findings to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and potential charges.
