Two students dead after taking Indian hemp in Imo

Police in Imo confirmed the death of two persons  suspected to be students of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, Ugochukwu Kingsley and Aka Uche, both male, yesterday, after India hemp and tramadol were recovered from their room. Two others were said to be hospitalized.
The incident was said to have happened at Sunshine Lodge in Ihiagwa in Owerri West Local Government Area in Imo State.
It was learnt that the incident which happened on Tuesday, at about 10:30pm  was reported to the nearest police division around 12:00pm by the caretaker of the affected lodge.
The other two persons whose names were given as Onyinyechi Okafor (female) and Richard  (male) found in the said room have been hospitalised.
The Imo state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident said: “This incident happened in their hostel and the person who reported the matter is their caretaker. Two boys were confirmed dead at the hospital. “However, there is unconfirmed report that the girl has died. The one I can confirm is that two were confirmed dead and that is the information from the DPO. “The two dead were Ugochukwu Kingsley and Aka Uche, both  male, while others said to have been hospitalised are Onyinyechi Okafor (female) and one Richard (male).”
The Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the FUTO, Uche Enwelue said the institution had not confirmed whether the deceased were bonafide students of FUTO. Enwelue said: “We have heard the story but we are yet to confirm whether they are actually our students  because we do have students from other areas coming to stay with their friends here. We will investigate to ascertain whether they are our students.”
