Iyana Ipaja, 
a suburb within Alimosho Local Government part of Lagos State, affected by the restriction of motorcycles transport turned a near ‘war zone’ as motorcyclists and the police clashed over the ban and restriction on the activities, leaving many people with varying degrees of injuries.
One of the victims, Mariam Shobukola, a Senior Secondary School student was said to have been shot during the clash.
Also, a patrol van belonging to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was set ablaze at the Iyana-Ipaja roundabout, a police utility vehicle was vandalised at Alaguntan. A motorbike belonging to the police was also damaged while several residents and policemen sustained injuries in the clash.
According to reports, the protesters were angry that some overzealous officials took advantage of the situation to seize motorcycles on roads not affected by the ban.
The police were reported to have shot tear gas canisters into the crowd and live bullets in the air, which led to the protest.
Hoodlums also cashed on the riot by joining the protesters and police called for reinforcement as they continued to shoot live bullets and canisters of teargas in different directions to disperse the crowd.
“It was in the process that the schoolgirl was hit in the buttocks by a bullet. Some hoodlums used the opportunity to dispossess passers-by of their belongings.
“There was confusion everywhere. We all ran for dear life. The okada people did not carry guns, sticks or bottles; they were only protesting the ban on motorcycles in some parts of Lagos State and the major roads, said an eyewitness.
The roads were also littered with the remnants of the bonfires made by the protesters.
At present, LASTMA officials in the area had been withdrawn for security reasons, while police have made some arrests.
