Sharing in VAT from alcohol sale: Lawyer sues FG, 12 northern states

Chief Malcom Omirhobo, a Human rights lawyer, has sued the Federal Government (FG), Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lagos State government and its attorney general, and 12 other northern states and their attorneys general at the Federal High Court, Lagos, over-allocation of Value Added Tax (VAT) realised from the sale of alcoholic beverages. Other defendants in the suit are Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, Bauchi, Sokoto, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger and Yobe States. They were all joined alongside their attorney’s general. Rochas Okorocha arrested by EFCC

Former Imo State governor and presidential aspirant, Rochas Okorocha, was yesterday arrested by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), at his Maitama, Abuja residence. Though the security operatives met stiff resistance from the supporters of the former governor, tear gas was fired to disperse them to effect the arrest. The anti-graft agency said it laid siege to the home of the former governor to arrest him, accusing him of jumping bail granted him by the commission. Court orders MC Oluomo, NURTW to stop levying Lagos drivers

The Ikoyi Federal High Court has ordered the Chairman of the Lagos State Park and Garages Management, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, and eight others to stop collecting levies from commercial drivers. Justice Peter Lifu gave the order in respect to an ex parte application filed by a lawyer, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje. FG to pay N20m damages over bizman’s death in EFCC custody

the Federal Government has been found liable by the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States, for the death of a businessman, Desmond Nunugwo, in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in April 2016.
