Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tiwatope Omolara Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, has opened up about the struggles she faces in the music industry, describing it as “filled with so much darkness.”
Speaking during a recent livestream, the award-winning singer said many people doubted the success of her latest album because it did not feature international collaborations or club-friendly tracks.
“My Alpha and Omega, this industry is filled with so much darkness. I wish you guys knew,” she said. “But I thank God that I’ve kept my eyes on Him. I haven’t fallen. When I put out the track list, so many people said, ‘She doesn’t have this person or that person, no big American features.’ They concluded the album won’t be good.”
Savage explained that her faith in God and the support of her fans have kept her grounded despite the pressures of the industry. She stressed that she remains committed to making music with depth and meaning rather than chasing validation through big-name features or typical club records.
The “Somebody’s Son” crooner further revealed that the project took more than two years to complete, adding that she faced numerous challenges and doubts along the way.
“I wish I could tell you the fights, the challenges, the people who doubted me,” she said. “Some said nobody would listen because it wasn’t a club record, but thank God, it’s out.”
Savage emphasized that while she may not have millions of listeners, what matters most to her are “the right ones” who genuinely connect w
ith her music.
