A 17-year-old boy has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly plucking out the eyes of his seven-year-old sister in a suspected money ritual incident.
The shocking incident occurred on October 17, 2025, at Wailo community in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who confirmed the development in a statement, said the suspect lured his sister, identified as Rukayya Muhammad, into a nearby bush where he allegedly attacked her and removed both eyes.
The victim was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where doctors confirmed that she had permanently lost her sight.
Wakil said the teenager was arrested alongside six others — identified as Mohammed Rabiu, 19; Saleh Ibrahim, 20; Nasiru Muhammad; Hassan Garba; and Garba Dahiru, 43 — all suspected to have conspired in the crime.
“The suspects have made useful statements during interrogation and will be charged to court after investigation,” the police spokesman said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a discreet investigation and ensure justice for the victim.
The gruesome act has sparked outrage across the state, with residents calling for stronger action against ritual-related crimes and better protection for vulnerable children.
