Ogun Police Arrest Man Selling Fake Fibroid Cure After Women Suffer Severe Health Complications

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a herbal product seller, Williams Adetunji, for allegedly promoting and selling fake fibroid-treatment drugs that reportedly caused severe health complications for multiple women.

Adetunji was apprehended after a woman filed a petition accusing him of selling unapproved products — Enervate Capsules and Tumorex — which he claimed could “eliminate fibroids naturally.” The victim said the products contained harmful chemicals, including caustic soda, leading to chemical burns, vaginal damage, prolonged bleeding and other dangerous reproductive complications.

According to the complaint, the injuries were so severe that the victim spent over ₦1.3 million on emergency medical treatment and may still require reconstructive procedures. Lawyers representing the victim also revealed that other women allegedly suffered similar complications after using the same fibroid-cure products.

Police spokespersons confirmed Adetunji’s arrest and said investigations are ongoing to determine the full scale of the harm caused. Health advocates are urging NAFDAC and security agencies to intensify crackdowns on unlicensed herbal practitioners selling untested and unsafe fibroid treatments online and in local communities.

The case has sparked public outrage, with many Nigerians calling for stricter regulation of alternative medicine and tougher penalties for marketers selling fake fibroid-cure products.
