Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former councillor in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, after 40 kilogrammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, were allegedly discovered hidden inside baby diapers at his residence.
Olalekan, 45, who previously served two terms as councillor representing the Orimedu community in the council, was arrested on Monday, March 2, 2026, at his home in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki, following credible intelligence linking him to illicit drug sale and trafficking.
NDLEA operatives reportedly conducted a search of the premises where the suspected drugs were recovered from one of the rooms in the house.
The suspect, who currently serves as a legislative aide to a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, allegedly admitted ownership of the recovered drugs and the property where they were found during interrogation.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the alleged trafficking operation and whether other individuals may be connected to the case.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
