‘God Has Truly Blessed Me’ — Shina Peters Fires Back at Ashimolowo Over Sermon Remarks

Legendary Juju musician, Sir Shina Peters, has responded to comments made by popular cleric and founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, describing the remarks as false and derogatory.

Ashimolowo, during a recent sermon, drew a comparison between Peters and Zenith Bank founder, Jim Ovia, while speaking on delayed gratification and financial decision-making. The cleric cited a N20 million investment allegedly available to both men in the early 1990s, claiming Peters used his to build a house while Ovia invested his in establishing a bank.

In the sermon, Ashimolowo stated that while one individual is now “fixing leaky roofs and broken toilets,” the other owns a bank with branches across Africa, using the analogy to encourage prudent financial choices.

Reacting via his Instagram story on Wednesday, Shina Peters addressed the sermon without directly attacking the cleric, noting that as a bishop himself, he would not engage in public verbal exchanges or legal action against a fellow man of God.

“For the sake of the legacy of our Creator and Christ Jesus, and other great men of God such as St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase, I will not take legal action nor speak ill against you, despite your false and derogatory statements,” Peters wrote.

The music icon further reflected on his life and career, insisting that he remains deeply grateful for God’s blessings and sees no need for comparisons.
“God has truly blessed me beyond words over these decades. Those close to me understand exactly what I mean,” he said.

Peters added that while God has also blessed Ashimolowo, the true measure of success lies in how individuals use their blessings to positively influence others.
“How we use our blessings to set good examples for people is what truly matters,” he concluded.
