A tragic incident happened in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, as a young graduate of Kwara State Polytechnic, identified as Wuraola, was allegedly stabbed to death by her elder sister just six days after signing out from school.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at the sisters’ shared apartment in the Eleko area of Oyun, near the polytechnic campus. Witnesses said a heated argument between the two escalated violently, culminating in the elder sister, identified as Adunni, stabbing Wuraola with a pair of scissors.
Sources close to the family said the attack left Wuraola with multiple stab wounds. Neighbours quickly rushed her to a nearby hospital while friends reportedly donated blood to save her life, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Adunni allegedly fled the scene after the attack and remains at large at the time of this report. According to reports, she packed some of her belongings before disappearing.
Wuraola, a graduate of Mass Communication, had signed out barely a week earlier after completing her final examinations. Her sudden death has plunged the institution and her classmates into mourning.
“It’s shocking and heartbreaking,” a classmate said. “Just a few days ago, we were celebrating our graduation together. Nobody could have imagined such a thing would happen.”
As of press time, the Kwara State Police Command had not released an official statement on the incident. However, residents and students are calling for a thorough investigation and the immediate arrest of the suspect.
The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear, but reports suggest that tensions had been building between the sisters over undisclosed family issues.
Wuraola’s body has been deposited in the mortuary as arrangements are being made by family and friends for her burial.
The incident adds to the growing list of domestic violence cases that have shocked communities across the country.
