Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 28-year-old man, Victor Cletus, for allegedly impersonating a medical doctor, sexually assaulting a young woman, and defrauding her under the guise of performing surgery.
Cletus, who claimed to be a surgeon, was discovered to be a cleaner at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilishan-Remo. Police said he contacted the victim on Snapchat, where he falsely presented himself as a medical professional. Trusting his claims, the victim sought his help over a lump in her right breast.
The suspect allegedly demanded money as a supposed surgery fee and instructed the victim to meet him for an operation. Instead of providing medical assistance, he reportedly sexually assaulted her, stole funds from her Opay account, and continued to demand sexual favours.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the arrest followed the victim’s report. She added that the suspect is under investigation and will be prosecuted.
Odutola cautioned the public, especially young women, to be wary of individuals they meet on social media, where impostors often disguise themselves to exploit victims.
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned the crime and warned online predators that the Command would not tolerate any form of deception, exploitation, or sexual violence against women.
