Cross River Assembly Suspends Lawmaker Ovat Agbor Over Alleged Assault on Wife

The Cross River State House of Assembly has suspended a lawmaker, Ovat Dickson Agbor, representing Obubra I State Constituency, following allegations that he assaulted his wife during a domestic dispute.

The decision was taken after the issue, which has been trending on social media, drew public outrage and calls for disciplinary action against the legislator.

Agbor was accused of physically attacking his wife, Glory, after a disagreement reportedly linked to allegations of infidelity. The incident, according to reports, escalated into a physical altercation at their residence.

Following the controversy, the Assembly resolved to suspend the lawmaker indefinitely pending the outcome of an investigation by its ethics committee.

The suspension bars Agbor from participating in legislative activities while the probe continues.

However, in a twist to the controversy, Agbor’s wife later came out to defend him, stating that the issue had been resolved privately within the family. She urged the public and media to refrain from further interference in their personal matters.

Despite the reconciliation claim, the Assembly insisted that the allegations were serious and required proper investigation, stressing that lawmakers must uphold the dignity of the legislative institution.

The incident has sparked widespread debate about domestic violence and the conduct of public officials in the state.
