Court Rejects Wasiu Ayinde’s Interim Injunction Over Awujale of Ijebuland Stool

An Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode, on Monday, December 22, 2025, rejected an application for an interim injunction filed by Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, seeking to halt the succession process to the Awujale of Ijebuland stool.
Ayinde had approached the court praying for an order restraining the Ijebu kingmakers, relevant traditional authorities, and the Ogun State Government from taking further steps towards the nomination and installation of a new Awujale, pending the determination of his substantive suit.

The musician challenged the succession process, alleging breaches of established traditional and chieftaincy laws guiding the emergence of a new Awujale following the passage of the late monarch.

In its ruling, the court declined to grant the interim relief, holding that the application failed to satisfy the legal requirements for such an urgent order. The judge ruled that the issues raised by the claimant would be more appropriately determined during the hearing of the substantive suit rather than through an interim injunction.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to a later date for further proceedings, while the succession process to the revered Awujale stool remains unaffected by the ruling.
