European Union scores supplementary polls low on security

According to the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM), the March 23 supplementary elections in Kano, Bauchi, Benue, Plateau and Sokoto states were marred by insecurity, violence, intimidation and ineffectiveness of security agencies. The group said 20 of its observers monitored the exercise in the affected states from polling through counting and collation of results. Lalong declared winner of Plateau gov election

Following the supplementary poll held on Saturday, Governor Simon Lalong of the All Progressives Congress has won the Plateau State governorship election. Lalong was declared the winner by the Returning Officer in the state, Prof Richard Kimbir, after scoring 595,582 votes to defeat 23 other candidates, including the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Jeremiah Useni, who garnered 546,813.
