Update:Judge Hamman Reveals Why 87-Year-Old Man Attacked Him Inside Adamawa Courtroom

Judge Dauda Hamman, who was allegedly attacked with a cutlass inside his courtroom in Adamawa State, has revealed what happened shortly before the violent incident.

Hamman, speaking from his hospital bed, said the incident occurred while he was presiding over a land dispute involving 87-year-old Dahiru Garba and another man.

The elderly defendant allegedly became violent during the proceedings and attacked the judge with a cutlass, repeatedly striking his hand and leaving him with serious injuries.

The incident occurred on August 31, 2026, at the Mayo-Inne Area Court in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Garba was subsequently arrested and the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola for further investigation.

He was later arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola on a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt under Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.

The 87-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to the charge and reportedly blamed “the devil” for his actions, while expressing regret.

The court ordered that he be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further proceedings.
