The Ebute Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of Shamsideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shameleon, a leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), at a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Oladiti, 55, was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command on allegations of assault and murder. According to police spokesperson Babaseyi Oluseyi, the suspect allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island using his fists and a helmet, inflicting serious injuries.
In a separate incident reported on August 28, Oladiti was accused of repeatedly striking another man, Imam Ramon, with a metallic ring during a dispute, causing severe head and facial wounds. Despite receiving medical treatment, Ramon died on September 17, 2025. His body has since been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.
Following his arraignment on a three-count charge, the court adjourned the matter to October 28 while awaiting advice from the DPP.
Ramon’s death sparked protests at Oladiti’s office in Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island, where sympathisers set two of his motorcycles ablaze, escalating tensions in the area.
The case has once again highlighted concerns over alleged high-handedness among some NURTW officials, with residents urging government intervention to check their excesses.
