The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a security guard identified as Godday for allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in the Mothercat area of Trans-Amadi, Port Harcourt.
Police said the suspect was picked up last Tuesday by operatives of the Trans-Amadi Division, working in collaboration with security staff of a nearby bank.
The victim’s mother, who withheld her identity for fear of stigmatisation, recounted that she had sent her daughter to withdraw money on September 20, 2025, when the incident occurred.
According to her, the teenager was trailed by the suspect from a bank at Ordinance Junction to another bank in Mothercat, where he allegedly dragged her into the premises where he worked as a guard, locked the gate, and raped her.
The mother revealed that the girl returned home hours later with torn clothes, blood stains, swollen face, and multiple bruises. She said the suspect beat her daughter until she lost consciousness and also made away with ₦340,000 from the money withdrawn.
The case was reported at the Trans-Amadi Police Station before the girl was taken to hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident, state police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspect has been arrested and the matter transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.
She added that the victim is currently receiving medical care, while the premises where the assault occurred — a building formerly used by a new generation bank — has been secured.
Meanwhile, a member of the Association Against Child Sexual Abuse and Gender-Based Violence, Dennis Otobo, has urged authorities to ensure the suspect is speedily prosecuted to serve as a deterrent.
