INEC Recognises David Mark, Aregbesola as ADC Leaders

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognised former Senate President, David Mark, as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, confirmed as National Secretary.

The electoral umpire also listed Dr. Mani Ibrahim as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Professor Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser, among other interim national officers of the opposition party.

David Mark was unveiled as interim chairman in July at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, following the resignation of long-serving National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu.

The recognition by INEC brings an end to the leadership tussle that has rocked the party in recent months. A check on the Commission’s official website on Wednesday showed the updated list of national officers under the David Mark-led executive.

It was gathered that in a July 29, 2025 letter to INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Nwosu formally notified the Commission of the resolutions of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC). The correspondence empowered the NEC to exercise the powers of the National Convention pending when the next convention is convened and listed Mark, Aregbesola and 42 other national officers as the authentic leadership of the party.

With INEC’s recognition, the ADC is expected to embark on fresh efforts at repositioning itself ahead of future elections.
