Authorities in Naperville, Illinois, say a body discovered in a forest preserve is believed to be that of Olasinmibo “Sinmi” Abosede, a 46-year-old Nigerian mother of four who had been missing since July 30.
The remains were found around 1:55 p.m. on Thursday after police received a call to a trailhead at the southwest corner of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, near 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive. Officers were led through thick grass where the body was located.
According to Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres, the clothing on the deceased matched what Abosede was last seen wearing. He said, “While we believe the individual to be Sinmi, the final confirmation will be made by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.”
Arres added that the department was “deeply saddened” by the development and extended condolences to the Abosede family. He also thanked members of the community for their support during the search and urged respect for the family’s privacy.
Abosede, a parishioner at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Naperville, had been reported missing in the same area on July 30. In a statement following the discovery, the church said, “Our parish family at St. Raphael Catholic Church has been praying diligently for the safe return of Olasinmibo ‘Sinmi’ Abosede. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of her passing. We are deeply saddened, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
Police have ruled out foul play in the incident.
