Mother, Son Arrested for Drug Trafficking as NDLEA Intensifies Nationwide Crackdown

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 52-year-old woman, Muyibat Mumuni, and her son, Faruk Mumuni, 25, in Mushin, Lagos, for alleged drug trafficking.

The duo was apprehended on Ladega Street, Mushin, on Wednesday, August 13, after operatives discovered 298 blocks of Ghana Loud, a strain of cannabis, weighing 149kg in their possession. In a related operation, another suspect, Emmanuel Samuel, was arrested two days later, August 15, in the Ajah area of Lekki, where 8.5kg of Canadian Loud was recovered from his apartment.

The NDLEA also made significant seizures across several states. In Gombe, operatives arrested Sani Mohammed, 32, on August 11 with 128,000 capsules of tramadol at Jauro Jatau. Similarly, on the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State, officers intercepted 337,800 capsules of tramadol from a commercial bus driven by 47-year-old Sulaiman Oyedokun, who was transporting the drugs from Onitsha, Anambra, to Kotangora, Niger State.

In Taraba State, NDLEA operatives, assisted by members of the Sardauna Emirate Council and the Nigeria Forest Hunters Security Service, raided Tanmiya Forest in Sardauna LGA on August 12, where they destroyed 4.5 hectares of cannabis farmland estimated at 11,250kg. Four days later, 29,840 capsules of tramadol were seized from a 20-year-old suspect, Saleh Babangida, at a checkpoint in Wukari.

In Kaduna, two suspects, Mohammed Amdife, 46, and Sulaiman Mohammed, 22, were arrested with 22,640 pills of tramadol and rohypnol at Gwargwaje checkpoint in Zaria and Tudun Wada area respectively. Two others, Caroline David, 51, and Abdulhadi Umar, 30, were nabbed with 111.1kg of skunk along the Zaria-Kano highway.

A major interception was also recorded at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, Rivers State, where NDLEA operatives recovered 875,000 bottles of codeine-based syrup valued at over N6.1 billion and 3.5 million pills of Trodol Benzhexol worth N1.7 billion. The seizures were made from five containers flagged through intelligence tracking during a joint operation with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies on August 13 and 14.

In Edo State, 24 bags of skunk weighing 432kg were discovered in a bush along Warake-Auchi road in Etsako West LGA on August 13. The following day, 130kg of the same substance was seized from a warehouse in Sobe, Owan West LGA.

Meanwhile, in Kano, NDLEA officers arrested Tahiru Madu Manga, 25, with 16kg of skunk, and Ibrahim Audu, 47, with 76kg of the substance along the Zaria-Kano road on August 13.

Also, 4,320 ampoules of ketamine injection were intercepted at Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Lagos highway on August 11, with a suspect, Akeem Adegun, taken into custody.

The NDLEA said the arrests and seizures reflect its sustained offensive against illicit drugs and trafficking networks across the country.
