Retired Teacher Abducted, Killed in Edo

A retired schoolteacher and farmer, Andrew Imuekheme, has been abducted and killed by suspected bandits in the Ikabigbo community of Uzairue Kingdom, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday as the victim was returning from his farm. Eyewitnesses said he was seized and dragged into the bush, while a woman who escaped the attackers ran to the community to alert vigilantes and hunters.

A search party was immediately mobilised, and residents still on their farms were recalled home for safety. The vigilantes later found Imuekheme’s motorcycle and shoes before discovering his body in the evening.

The traditional ruler of the community, Chief Braimah Alegeh, condemned the killing, describing Ikabigbo as a peace-loving farming settlement. He appealed to the state government and security agencies for urgent intervention to protect lives.

“We are predominantly farmers and peace-loving people; the government and security agents should come to our aid so that we can have peace,” Alegeh said.
