Tinubu Approves Civil Service Jobs, ₦250,000 Cash Awards for 200 NYSC Honorees

President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate employment of 200 outstanding National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members into the federal civil service and awarded each of them ₦250,000 for exemplary performance during the 2020–2023 service years.

The announcement was made Tuesday in Abuja during the combined President’s NYSC Honours Award ceremony, where the President—represented by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha—praised the honorees for their “discipline, commitment, patriotism and integrity.”

In addition to cash gifts and automatic employment, Tinubu announced full scholarships for the awardees to pursue postgraduate studies in any Nigerian university.

Ten physically challenged ex-corps members who sustained injuries during their service were also promised federal employment, with the President assuring them their sacrifices would not be forgotten.

“The Head of the Civil Service and Federal Civil Service Commission will commence the employment process immediately,” Tinubu said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment through education, skills development and technology.

Among those honoured were Nunaya Polycarp Nunaya (Adamawa/Kwara), Okpogbo Alvin Chinedu (Imo/Cross River), Dr. Ugwa Obinna Mark (Abia/Cross River), Rabiu Quadri Mayokun (Osun/Rivers), Akase Pati Ence Nguwasen (Benue/Gombe), and Igwe Anne Chikaodi (Enugu/Sokoto).

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, commended Tinubu’s “unwavering love for young people,” citing recent youth-focused initiatives and the upward review of corps members’ allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 as evidence of government’s commitment to youth welfare.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, also lauded the administration’s support, including approval of the NYSC Trust Fund Bill and expanded investment opportunities for corps members.

He disclosed that in 2025 alone, 6,340 medical personnel—including 2,319 doctors—were deployed under the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, benefiting over 4 million Nigerians.

Nafiu emphasized the scheme’s role in national development through ICT training, voter education, and entrepreneurship, urging the honorees to remain “ambassadors of unity and innovators of hope.”

Four corps members who died in the line of duty were also posthumously honored.
