Celebrated Nigerian rapper and actor, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, sparked controversy on the internet after publicly declaring that “fornication is not a sin,” thereby setting social media platforms on ‘fire’ with different reactions.
Falz, who made the comment via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, is the son of human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana. He is also a trained lawyer.
Stirring controversy, Falz posted: “Fornication is not a sin.”
The remark has since drawn a wave of mixed responses, with many questioning the moral and religious implications of such a statement — particularly coming from a public figure with legal and intellectual credibility.
While some expressed disappointment, others were quick to point out what they described as societal hypocrisy.
A reply from a fan said:
“Most of y’all are just certified hypocrites. You’re out here condemning this tweet yet you indulge in it.”
Others also introduced legal interpretations to the post saying “no law is contravened if an unmarried man and woman decide to fornicate, because if there is no law, there is no sin.”
The rapper is yet to post an update or clarification on the subject matter, while reactions continue to trend.
