Comrade Akeem Ambali, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has been dismissed by the Ogun State government. It was also reported that the vice and the state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Dare Ilekoya and 14 others were also dismissed.
Also reportedly suspended were 19 officials of the union hacked for alleged misconduct during the recently celebrated teachers day.
It was gathered that the NUT leadership was being reprimanded by the government for inviting politicians to their teachers day programme .
This was contained in a report of a panel of inquiry set up to investigate the alleged misconduct of executive members of the NUT on the 2016 World Teachers Day Celebration, held on the 5th of October, at the NUT Hall, Kuto, Abeokuta.
The recommendations of the panel signed by the Head of Service, Elder Sola Adeyemi, was approved by the state government for immediate implementation.
It was learnt that the state government set up an administrative panel of inquiry to look into complaints received from the state commissioner for education, Modupe Mujota over the invitation extended to opposition leaders during the celebration.
The NLC chairman, who was until his dismissal a Deputy Director, Community and Social Development, Sagamu Local Government, was allegedly the brain behind the political campaign rally during the celebration.
He was accused of making inflammable and scandalous remarks against the state government, which could cause breach of peace in the state.
However, the NLC Chairman said he had never been summoned by any panel, and that; “The attention of the leadership was just drawn to the purported dismissal through phone calls.
“Our cause for this strike is legitimate, just and right. They have only shown their true colours and this new approach is unprecedented in the history of this country,as no state governor has done what they are doing to us in Ogun State.”
