Matron jailed for child trafficking

A 47-year-old woman, Gertrude Akpan, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by the Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo, for trafficking in children. The convict was said to have bought a six-year-old boy in Uyo and taken him to Owerri, Imo State, where she sold the victim to one Kate Ogbonna. Fresh attack leaves 36 dead, houses burnt in Jos

Some gunmen, on Tuesday night reportedly attacked Yelwan Zangam community, close to the permanent site of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), killing about 36 people and burning houses. The attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. despite the dusk to dawn curfew imposed in Jos North council as well as Jos South and Bassa council areas. Jermall Charlo, undefeated World Boxing Council middleweight champion, was arrested on Wednesday on felony robbery charges from a July incident at a San Antonio bar. Charlo posted bond on three charges of second-degree robbery and was released. Victorious Army Ministries’ General Overseer, Joseph Agboli Is Dead

The general overseer of Victorious Army Ministries (VAM), Reverend Joseph Agboli, is dead. The founder died on Wednesday. He had been under treatment at a London hospital. According to reports gathered, he was diagnosed with a heart-related ailment. Agboli, in his 50s, started Victorious Army Ministries in 1995. The worship centre and international headquarters on Acme Road in Ogba, Lagos was developed in 1998. The church has branches in Southern States, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States.
