JUSUN suspends two-month-old strike

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (NJC) on yesterday, Wednesday suspended its two months nationwide strike which paralysed activities in the courts. Members of the union had embarked on the strike on April 6 to press home their demand for the financial autonomy of the judiciary. The 64-day-old strike is the longest industrial action the Nigerian judiciary, as a whole, has ever seen. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Office, is investigating an alleged case of conspiracy, computer-related fraud, obtaining by false pretense and retention of proceeds of unlawful activities levelled against one Malik Giles Bakare. Bakare was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police, Force CID, Alagbon, Lagos on May 31, 2021 and subsequently handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution.
